Anyone who has traveled knows how expensive a vacation can get. Airfare, car rentals, meals, and the hotel all add up to a pretty hefty price tag. Fortunately, there are ways to be more frugal on your next vacation! Who knows? Maybe the amount you’ll save can get you on another short trip!
Travel Time: There is a reason why airfare is more expensive during Christmas and spring break! By avoiding the most popular vacation dates, which also include many summer dates, you can lower the airfare and hotel prices by quite a bit. In addition, figure out the most popular times for the exact place you are going, and avoid those dates!
Just Ask: Many people just assume that they have to pay the price on the website. However, the service industry is different than grocery shopping. If you call the front desk at the hotel you are staying at, they may be willing to comp a night or give you a free upgrade, especially if it is during a lull.
Pack Smart: Bringing your own toiletries, food, and entertainment, will greatly reduce the cost of your trip. If you have children, packing snacks will be of the utmost importance, especially if you have a layover or are waiting to be checked into your hotel. In addition to packing these things, pack light! This may seem contradictory, but you definitely want to avoid any extra baggage fees.
There are plenty of things you can do to save money on your trip. The best thing you can do is to plan! Find fun events in the area that are free, feel comfortable asking about any discounts, especially for families, and set a budget. You’ll be glad you did, and so will your bank account!
