Visiting Yosemite National Park

Posted on July 13th, 2017 by Paul Hill

Visiting at least one National Park should be on everyone’s bucket list. One such park, Yosemite National Park, is well known for its waterfalls, but also boasts mountains, Yosemite Valley, vast wilderness areas, meadows, and more. In addition to the traditional hiking, camping, and backpacking, you can go on a guided tour, participate in ranger programs, go biking or fishing, go rock climbing, and so much more. While you could never get to the entire park in one visit, you will be able to take in lots of outdoors activities with beautiful scenery no matter when you go!

Going to Yosemite

YosemiteMany choose to make a day trip out of Yosemite National Park, and many choose to spend multiple days there. If you do plan on doing a day trip, choose one of the Fresno airport hotels available to you; this way, you can head to Yosemite during the day during your trip, and still enjoy other attractions around Fresno! The park recommends visitors arrive prior to 9am to avoid traffic, as well as to get a head start on your activities. You’ll want to speak to a park ranger when you arrive to learn about the hiking routes, campgrounds if you will be staying the night, tours if you want to go on one, etc.

When to Visit

Most visitors head to Yosemite between April and October, which are their peak months. For those that don’t like extreme heat, visiting in April, May, September, or October may be best. Hiking in April weather can be much more comfortable than hiking in August weather, depending on what you prefer. With activities ranging from bird watching to water sports, everyone will have a great time no matter when you visit. During the winter, there are winter sports available!
