Make Your Holiday Travel Easier

Posted on November 16th, 2017 by Paul Hill

When you have to travel between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, it can be extremely stressful. Many more people are traveling, there can be weather delays, security problems, and more. While driving is a hassle, flying tends to be what gives most a headache. Cramped airports are often a horror, with large families, people running late, and more. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to make your holiday travel less stressful, so you will be ready to spend time with your family!

Arrive Early

The best thing you can do for yourself to avoid stress is to arrive early. No matter your flight, you will never regret getting to the airport early. No one wants to be the person that is running frantically through the airport trying to get to their gate. Give yourself time to get through security, get a coffee, go to the bathroom, find your gate; with a time cushion, you will be able to handle some delays in the TSA line or traffic.

Choosing a Flight

Ideally, you will get a direct flight to and from airports that are not major (O’Hare, Atlanta, LaGuardia, etc.). However, this may be difficult depending on where you live. While in the process of picking a flight, the earlier you can book, particularly if you are flying with other people, the better. Flights are automatically more expensive during the holidays, but always look at extra hidden costs, such as luggage. Sometimes it is worth spending a bit more on the seat so you don’t get hit with extra fees.

Other Tips

To reduce stress, the best thing you can do is arrive early. However, other things you can do is fly without wrapped presents; wrap your gifts after you are at your destination. You can also travel actually on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day to avoid people and save money, know the rules of your flight in regards to luggage and liquids, stay with your suitcase, and try to make sure that your connecting flight (if you have one) is through a nicer-weather airport to avoid disruptions.

Ultimately, traveling stress-free during the holidays is an extremely difficult task. However, you can make it easier for yourself with these tips!
