Halloween Celebrations Across the US

Posted on October 17th, 2017 by Paul Hill

For many, Halloween is their favorite holiday, or at least in the top five. Dressing up, enjoying fall treats, going to a haunted house, and more are all great activities that anyone can enjoy. However, certain places across the United States really go all in for Halloween! Parades, haunted tours, street fairs, and even a Witchcraft Expo can be found in these cities. Even if you can’t make it to one this year, start planning for next year if Halloween is your favorite celebration!

Parades and Street Fests

Halloween celebrations across the usIf a more “fun” Halloween appeals to you over a “scary” Halloween, the parades and street fests on this list are the route to go. One of the best in the United States is the Village Halloween Parade in the heart of New York City. This parade shuts down lower Manhattan and anyone with a costume can join the mile-long parade. If you’re on the other side of the country, on Santa Monica Boulevard is West Hollywood Carnaval, which is the world’s largest Halloween street party! With music, costume contests, and more, this fest is a must. For a more food-focused fest, head to Atlanta for their Little Five Points Halloween Festival and Parade. If you’re in the Midwest, head to Halloween on Halsted, the annual parade with a costume competition in Chicago’s Boystown neighborhood.

Spookier Events

For those that want a scarier experience, head to one of the many fests that celebrate the history of the town and past events that have occurred there. Head to the East Coast for the spookiest experiences, including the month-long Sleepy Hollow Halloween in Sleepy Hollow, New York! With haunted hayrides, street fairs, evening lantern tours, and more, you’ll be able to visit the haunted Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and the crypt of vampire Barnabas Collins. In Salem, Massachusetts, they also have a month-long festival with the Festival of the Dead, Annual Psychic Fair, and Witchcraft Expo. Another event outside of the East Coast is the Emma Crawford Festival in Colorado Springs, complete with coffin races.

Most places will have something going on for Halloween, whether a form of Oktoberfest, a parade, or something to do with the town’s history. However, if you are looking for something new, check out one of the aforementioned places!
